The Fremont boys’ basketball team closed the gap on Riverside King in the waning minutes of the first quarter and trails, 21-19, heading into the second quarter of the Southern California Regional Division I first-round game at King.

Kawhi Leonard sank a pair of three-pointers to help King to an 11-2 lead after 2 1/2 minutes, but the Panthfinders found their groove and the Wolves started turning the ball over.

Tony Freeland, who was stuffed twice in a row by Kyle Perry earlier in the quarter, got revenge with a slam over Perry, which also earned Perry his third foul.

Needless to say, we won’t be seeing King’s big man for a while.
