Girls’ basketball: Morgan receives state honor for Millikan’s success

Lorene Morgan, who guided Millikan to the Southern Section Division I-AA title game and victories this season over Long Beach Poly, Fontana Miller, Redondo and Ventura, has been named the state coach of the year by CalHiSports.com.
Morgan, whose team has reached the playoffs 18 times in her 19 seasons, reached the section finals for the first time.
Millikan (28-5) finished the season ranked No. 4 by The Times and No. 6 in the state.
Michael Anderson of Magnolia was among other coaches of the year, as selected by the website.
