Redlands East Valley’s Tyler Chatwood throws smoke. So I ran downstairs and found the guys with the guns -- a few scouts with radar guns that is.
‘How fast?’ I asked one scout.
‘Consistently 94, 95 [mph],’ he replied.
That’s why UCLA wanted him -- he’s committed to be a Bruin -- and probably why the big league prospectors are here tonight. Chatwood has four strikeouts through the first two innings against El Toro in the Southern Section-Toyota Division II final at Dodger Stadium. The score is still 0-0.
