On a scale of one to 10, this was an A-11.
Riverside-Brookfield of Riverside, Ill., recently set single-game state records by passing for 597 yards and nine touchdowns during a 63-19 victory over Bensenville Fenton while using the unconventional A-11 offense, a formation in which all 11 players are potentially eligible to receive a pass.
Saddleback Valley Christian, one of a handful of teams in California to use the formation, improved to 6-0 on Friday with a 34-6 victory over Sherman Indian. The Warriors next play Twin Pines on Saturday at St. Margaret’s.
It seems a safe bet that more teams will switch to the A-11 by next season -- if the somewhat controversial formation isn’t banned by then.
