Live blog: Late touchdown pass pulls Hart within 14-7 at half

Despite dominating the first half statistically, Valencia leads by only seven points at halftime of tonight’s Foothill League showdown with Hart.

Leading 14-0, the Vikings appeared ready to deliver the knockout blow midway through the second quarter, marching to Hart’s 7-yard line. But linebacker Demitri Diamond intercepted Dominick Solley’s pass at the goal line and returned it to the Indians’ 29-yard line.

On the ensuing drive, Spenser Sousa found a wide open Nate Allmond for a 23-yard touchdown pass to pull Hart within 14-7 just 21 seconds before halftime.

So far, Hart has had no answer for Valencia’s Jordan Thompson, the league’s leading rusher. He has scored both of the Vikings’ touchdowns, on runs of 18 and two yards.

In other Foothill League action, host Canyon leads West Ranch 14-0 at halftime and Saugus is off to a 23-0 first-quarter lead over Golden Valley at College of the Canyons.
