To see Loyola students charging the home court of Harvard-Westlake told the story of how emotional and important Loyola’s 91-88 victory over the Wolverines was Friday night in a game for first place in the Mission League.

Jordan Gathers, a junior guard who missed seven weeks of the season with a separated shoulder, scored 27 points for the Cubs, who survived some missed free throws in the fourth quarter to improve to 16-5 overall and 9-1 in league. Harvard-Westlake, which had won 11 consecutive games, dropped to 16-6 and 8-1.

Damiene Cain scored 25 points for Harvard-Westlake, with Austin Kelly and Erik Swoope adding 20 points apiece.

Loyola had much more balance on offense than in the game it lost to Harvard-Westlake three weeks ago.
