Santa Clarita Golden Valley, 0-15 in Foothill League baseball last season, upset Newhall Hart, 4-2, on Wednesday behind Nick Rhoades, who threw the first five innings and also hit a three-run home run.
Golden Valley (7-8, 2-4) also received strong relief pitching from sophomore Scott Barlow, who picked up the save.
