Lacrosse: Southern Section championship matchups set

It will be undefeated Loyola versus Foothill in the unofficial Southern Section boys’ lacrosse championship at 7 p.m. Friday at Mira Costa after both teams rallied from five-goal deficits Tuesday.

Loyola (16-0) trailed Mira Costa, 6-1, with 3 minutes 54 seconds left in the second quarter of the L.A. County Tournament final before rallying for an 8-7 victory in the second period of sudden-death overtime when Zach Rodriguez scored.

Foothill (19-5) trailed top-seeded Corona del Mar, 6-1, early in the second quarter of the Orange County championship before pulling out a 10-8 victory.

There wasn’t quite as much drama on the girls’ side Tuesday, as top-seeded Los Alamitos (18-0) defeated Foothill, 15-10, to advance to play Cate in the unofficial Southern Section girls’ lacrosse championship at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Mira Costa.
