A senior season that has not even started for USC-bound running back Trajuan Briggs of Birmingham will finally get underway in two weeks. Coach Jim Rose said Monday he expects Briggs to play in the Patriots’ West Valley League opener against Woodland Hills El Camino Real on Oct. 16.
Briggs has been sidelined with a hairline fracture in his foot. A boot has been taken off, and he has started working out. Birmingham (0-5) has a bye this week after opening the season with losses to Garfield, Encino Crespi, Valencia, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Dorsey.
But the Patriots have been making progress, and the return of Briggs figures to provide a big boost to a team that still might be the prime challenger to Woodland Hills Taft in the West Valley.
