Football: What about Edison in all this No. 1 talk?

Crenshaw, Oaks Christian.
Oaks Christian, Crenshaw.
All this back-and-forth over who is the top high school football team in Southern California is forgetting one thing: Edison.
The Chargers, ranked No. 3 in the Southland by The Times, have four impressive victories--over No. 5 Servite, No. 20 Los Alamitos, No. 21 Dana Hills and Mater Dei--to two for Crenshaw (No. 4 Lakewood, No. 16 Norco) and two for Oaks Christian (out-of-state power Skyline and No. 25 Venice).
It’s going to be difficult to keep Edison out of the No. 1 spot if the Chargers run the table and win the Pac-5 Division playoffs. Doing so would probably also assure Edison of a berth in the CIF open division state championship bowl game.
So how do the Chargers feel about being left out of some of the conversations about who is the best team in Southern California?
‘I don’t really think about them,’ Edison defensive back Wade Houston said of Oaks Christian and Crenshaw, ‘because we’re not going to play them, so it doesn’t really matter. They can all get credit for [being] the No. 1 team out here, we just want to win Pac-5 and that’s all that matters.’
