The spring semester has begun, which means that transfer season for football players is in high gear. Let’s thank the California Interscholastic Federation for its wonderful rule allowing freshmen a one-time free transfer to any school they want.
So here’s the early rundown:
West Hills Chaminade has gained four freshmen players from Van Nuys Montclair Prep after the retirement of Coach George Giannini. They include wide receiver Elijah Dunston, running back Terrell Nuby, lineman Jerry Rodriguez and linebacker Aderemi Adeyemo.
‘My take on it is something happened over there,’ Chaminade Coach Ed Croson said.
But the best freshman to transfer might be 6-foot-1, 260-pound Robert McGee from Westlake Village Westlake. He was a two-way starter on a 10-0 freshman team, plus the Warriors’ varsity went 14-0. And yet, he transferred to the school about a mile away, Oaks Christian. He must like the school colors at Oaks Christian. And he gets to face his old teammates this fall.
UPDATE: Sherman Oaks Notre Dame welcomed a 6-3, 270-pound freshman transfer from Utah, Leroy Tanoai. Mission Hills Alemany got a sophomore lineman transfer from Notre Dame, Alex Watkins. Vista Murrieta picked up one of the top young defensive backs in Su’a Cravens, who started as a freshman last season at Temecula Valley.
Of course, Gardena Serra picked up juniors-to-be from L.A. Jordan, linebacker Patrick Wooten and defensive back Raymond Ford.
I have a feeling there are plenty more transfers that have taken place, including public schools, but they’re keeping their heads down. Like letter of intent day, we need a transfer day so the media can report all the changes. It’s so exciting.
