There’s no baseball team in Southern California who will have a better trio of top seniors than Huntington Beach Edison with pitcher Henry Owens, infielder Christian Lopes and outfielder Eric Snyder.
But as the Chargers learned last season, that’s no guarantee of winning a Southern Section Division 1 champonship. There’s too many good teams and good pitchers. That’s why Edison is trying to develop other players around their elite trio.
A couple of sophomores show lots of promise for Edison in catcher Jake Lesinski and infielder-pitcher Tyler Jones. Both will need to be important contributors for Edison to make it far in the playoffs.
Opposing teams, however, know it will be difficult knocking off the 6-foot-7 Owens, who projects as a first-round pick in the June draft.
