Boys’ basketball: St. Bernard wins on buzzer-beater

Thurman Thomas’ putback basket at the buzzer lifted St. Bernard to a 61-59 upset of top-seeded Sierra Canyon in the Southern California Regional Division V final at Colony High in Ontario.

Daniel Cordoba scored 13 points and Brandon Randolph and Emani Grant each added nine for the Vikings (26-8), who outscored Sierra Canyon 18-11 in the fourth quarter.

Michael Cohen scored 15 points, Brian Alberts and Marsalis Johnson each added 11 and Daniel Cohen had 10 for the Trailblazers (27-6).

St. Bernard advances to the state final next Friday at Power Balance Pavilion (formerly Arco Arena) in Sacramento.
