Cross country: Palisades duo ready to go in City finals

The City Section cross country championships are set for Thursday afternoon at Pierce College, and Palisades High has two runners capable of challenging for the individual title in the boys’ division in Matt Hammer and Grant Stromberg. Hammer ran the fastest prelim time of 15:37.
Birmingham freshman Ryan Alexander also could be a contender. Palisades, Marshall, Birmingham, Santee and San Pedro are the teams to watch for the boys’ title.
In the girls’ race, Crystal Morales of Santee had the fastest prelim time of 18:10. Peyton Cline of El Camino Real, a sophomore, could be a contender.
San Pedro, Birmingham and Palisades are the favorites to take the girls’ title.
