Boys’ basketball: Crespi wins SFV Invitational

For the second straight season, Mission League rivals Crespi and Alemany met in the championship game of the San Fernando Valley Invitational. And for the second straight time, Crespi took home the first-place trophy.
The Celts (10-0), ranked No. 11 by The Times, outlasted their league foes 64-59 behind 18 points from Michael Avery, including six free throws in the final two minutes to seal the victory. Tournament MVP London Perrantes added 17 points for Crespi.
Marqueze Coleman scored 20 points and Jerico Richardson added 13 for the Warriors (7-2), ranked No. 9 by The Times, who lost to league rival Loyola in the finals of the Santa Monica Tournament on Dec. 10.
In earlier games Wednesday, Morningside routed Ribet Academy, 75-49, in the third-place game and Burbank defeated No. 22 Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 64-54, to take fifth place.
