Unbeaten Los Angeles Loyola (10-0) is thriving in the snow in Bethesda, Md., advancing to the championship game of the Jesuit Christmas Classic after a 64-43 victory over Florida Jesuit. Julian Harrell led a balanced attack with 11 points.
‘We played maybe our best defensive game of the year,’ Coach Jamal Adams said. ‘We’re still trying to play through jet lag. It was a real good win.’
Loyola spent the day as tourists, taking the subway to Washington D.C. and visiting the Lincoln Memorial and Martin Luther King Memorial. On Friday, the team could be headed to Arlington National Cemetery.
One problem for Adams is that his players are liking the snow a little too much.
‘Our guys are loving it,’ he said. ‘I had to bring them in the hotel. They wanted to play in the snow.’
Loyola will head home on Saturday and face its toughest schedule yet, with Mission League games on the road against Crespi on Wednesday and Alemany on Friday.
The Cubs have also finalized a home site for the Jan. 13 game against Harvard-Westlake. It will be at Cal State Los Angeles after earlier being scheduled for Roybal High.
