JSerra won its fifth consecutive game on Monday, but it wasn’t easy. Leading, 12-4, the Lions had to survive a Santa Margarita comeback before prevailing, 12-11, in a Trinity League game.
Santa Margarita scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh. Last week, JSerra pulled out a 10-inning victory over Servite. ‘I’m losing my hair,’ Coach Brett Kay said of the stress his team is causing him.
JSerra (5-3), however, is 3-0 in league play. Tanner Biley and Casey Worden had three hits apiece. Mike Heenan had three RBIs.
St. John Bosco defeated Servite, 9-2. Sophomore Reid Budrovich threw five innings of shutout ball.
Orange Lutheran (8-2, 3-0) defeated host Mater Dei, 6-4, with two runs in the seventh. Josh Morgan and Matt Carlson had two hits apiece. Cody Nulph picked up the save. Art Moran-Vidrio improved to 3-1. Ryan McMahon and Jeremy Martinez had two hits apiece for Mater Dei (5-3, 2-1).
In Arizona, Quartz Hill split a doubleheader, losing to Oklahoma Broken Arrow, 4-3, and beating Oklahoma Hennessey, 12-1, in five innings. Freshman Gaston Bastonchury and Ty Boyles each hit home runs.
