Baseball: Loyola is in the spotlight this week

The surprise leader in the Mission League is Los Angeles Loyola, which is 5-1 in league and 14-5-1 overall. But it’s time for the Cubs to show what they can do against the big boys.
Loyola plays Mission Hills Alemany (14-4-1, 2-1-1) in an critical two-game series this week, starting Tuesday at Loyola and Thursday at Alemany.
Loyola ace Kevin Carswell (6-1, 2.14 ERA) is expected to face Alemany’s unbeaten Cody Thompson (6-0) on Tuesday. Loyola has been receiving strong hitting from Quinn Brodey (.509 average) and Jack Welsh (.432).
Another big league game on Tuesday is in the Century League, where Anaheim Esperanza (14-3, 8-0) will host Placentia El Dorado (12-5, 6-2). Brandon Luper of Esperanza is expected to take on El Dorado ace Kyle Twomey. El Dorado won the Hard 9 National Classic last week.
In the City Section, El Camino Real and Chatsworth meet in a West Valley League showdown on Wednesday at El Camino Real and on Friday at Chatsworth.
