Baseball: Kevin Lewallyn pitches Chaminade past Loyola

Junior left-hander Kevin Lewallyn allowed three hits to lead Chaminade past Loyola, 2-0, in a Mission League game on Friday. The win could allow the Eagles (7-5) to finish third in league play. Loyola (6-4) still has two games left against first-place Harvard-Westlake next week.
Sam Mayall had two hits for the Eagles. Junior right-hander Chad Powers pitched well for Loyola. Harvard-Westlake defeated St. Francis, 7-2. Hans Hansen threw a six-hitter. Max Fried and Jack Flaherty had two hits apiece. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Alemany, 9-6. Jack Hirabayashi had a key hit in the sixth inning. Kinan Barton got the save. Brett Sesma had two hits and three RBIs.
In the South Coast League, Chasen Ford improved to 8-0 with a four-hitter in El Toro’s 4-1 win over San Clemente. Logan Tomlinson and Dan James had two hits apiece. El Toro is 7-3 and tied with Tesoro for first place. The two schools meet Tuesday at Tesoro and Thursday at El Toro to decide the league title.
In the Marmonte League, Agoura (18-3-1, 11-1) clinched at least a share of the league title with a 7-1 win over Simi Valley. Albee Weiss had three hits. Ricky Davis had two hits in Newbury Park’s 5-3 win over Westlake. Calabasas defeated Royal, 5-1. Chris Sojkoski went three for three.
In the Pacific Coast League, Irvine University pulled into a first-place tie with Irvine Beckman after 2-1 win over Beckman. Both schools are 9-4. Steve Trojan threw the shutout in Capistrano Valley’s 7-0 win over Dana Hills. Mitch Christensen had two hits and two RBIs in Esperanza’s 4-2 win over Brea Olinda.
In the Trinity League, a two-out single by Chase Jones gave Santa Margarita a 4-3 win over Servite. The Eagles scored three unearned runs after Servite’s Ricky Bielski had a one-hitter going into the sixth. Mater Dei defeated JSerra, 5-2. Tyler Adkison had two hits and Ryan McMahon hit a home run. Davis Tominaga threw a complete game.
No. 1-ranked Orange Lutheran defeated St. John Bosco, 8-1. Jason Martin, Josh Morgan, Matt Carlson and Matt Stumme each had two hits. Three pitchers combined on a two-hitter.
In the Foothill League, Valencia defeated Saugus, 9-1. Brian Mundell hit a two-run home run. Kyle Sanchez had two RBIs. Connor Chase threw a complete game. Freshman Jagger Rusconi went three for four with two RBIs in West Ranch’s 12-1 win over Hart. Cody Bennett struck out five in six innings. West Ranch is one-game ahead of Saugus with two to play. Canyon defeated Golden Valley, 2-1.
In the Tri-Valley League, Oaks Christian defeated Carpinteria, 21-0. Phil Bickford struck out nine in four innings. Brandon Evans had three hits and four RBIs, including two triples.
In the Pacific League, Burbank defeated Muir, 13-0. Crescenta Valley defeated Glendale, 13-0. Cole Currie struck out six in four innings.
In the Camino Real, sophore Alan Trejo threw a three-hitter in Cathedral’s 5-0 win over Mary Star. He struck out 10. Joshua Ibarra went three for four. Cathedral is 19-5 and 12-1.
In the Big VIII, Riverside North clinched the league title on Wednesday but was beaten on Friday by Corona Santiago, 2-0. North plays Bonita on Saturday at Corona Centennial in a tournament final.
In the Desert Valley, Palm Desert is 10-0 after an 8-0 win over Cathedral City. Brooks Kriske, a USC signee, struck out eight and allowed three hits. Brian Serven hit a home run and Chris Drake was two for two.
