Not much has changed in a year’s time for top-ranked Santa Margarita. The Eagles still rely on the arm and legs of quarterback Johnny Stanton.
Stanton passed for 206 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 86 yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles’ 27-14 victory over Brophy Prep in Phoenix, Ariz., on Saturday night. The game was nationally televised on ESPN2.
Santa Margarita lost two fumbles and Stanton was intercepted twice, but the Eagles’ defense played well, particularly in stopping the run. Santa Margarita’s special teams struggled. Brophy got a blocked punt in the fourth quarter that resulted in a touchdown.
Kyle Sweet caught a 26-yard TD pass from Stanton and River Cracraft caught a seven-yard TD pass on a fourth-and-two situation.
Santa Margarita is ranked No. 1 by The Times.
