It’s not good when people associated with a sports program choose to mislead a sportswriter.

That’s what happened on Wednesday at Gardena Serra, where both an assistant baseball coach and a player insisted that star outfielder Dominic Smith was missing from the team’s game against Aliso Niguel because he was sick.

On Thursday, Coach Will Aaron confirmed that Smith missed the 7-5 loss because he was ejected by an umpire on Monday in a loss to Downey.

The Serra people have a credibility problem now, and it’s not just because they have six transfers on their roster this season.

I appreciate Aaron stepping forward to clarify things, but he might want to have a talk with people involved in his program.
