Jon Mack, who resigned as Encino Crespi football coach earlier this month, has not been hired at Oxnard Santa Clara as an assistant principal as some had anticipated and remains available for a coach opening.

Mack decided it was time for a change at Crespi. The school’s president, Tom Batsis, said he tried to convince Mack to stay as coach.

Mack was highly successful at Ventura St. Bonaventure, then at Ventura College. Crespi went 8-2 last season but failed to make the Pac-5 Division playoffs.

In deciding to leave Crespi, Mack left without a certain job future.

But he has a proven record, so it will be interesting to see if a school with an opening pursues him.
