Since he became eligible on April 1, sophomore Solomon Bates of Gardena Serra has been living up to expectations on the mound. In his latest performance, he threw a no-hitter in the Cavaliers’ 5-0 Del Rey League victory over La Salle.

Bates was a standout as a freshman at Victor Valley, transferred to Serra and had to sit out the first month of the season. He’s committed to USC, but he figures to be one of Southern California’s top pro prospects by his senior season. He struck out four and walked two.
