Former Lake Balboa Birmingham pitcher Edgar Olmos texted his high school coach, Matt Mowry, on Sunday with the message that he has been called up by the Miami Marlins from Double-A Jacksonsville and will join the team on Monday.
Olmos, a left-handed relief pitcher, was a third-round pick of the Marlins in 2008.
‘I’m excited for him,’ Mowry said.
Olmos was 4-2 with a 1.27 ERA for Jacksonville.
He was an All-City pitcher at Birmingham.
