A pre-dawn fire destroyed two buildings, burned an acre of brush and damaged a fire truck at a religious retreat compound in the Latigo Canyon near Malibu, county fire officials said. The fire at the World Healing Center was caused by a short in the electrical wiring in one of the buildings, county fire inspector Dick Stirling said. Fourteen fire companies fought the blaze that set off a small brush fire and burned a fire truck. Damage was estimated at $245,000 to the center’s structures and an additional $10,000 damage to the fire truck, officials said. Three residents at the center were treated for burns at Santa Monica Hospital and released, Stirling said.
