Reagan Goes for a Tie and Gets a Split Vote

President Reagan proudly wore a new necktie as he posed Wednesday for pictures with visiting Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone in Los Angeles, saying it “does away with all the jokes about Christmas ties.”
The upper half of the tie was deep red and the lower half teal blue, with blue stripes in the middle. One reporter at the session told Reagan that “opinions were divided” about the tie’s attractiveness.
