Jim Farmer is new president of the Southern California Football Officials Assn.’s South Bay Unit. Other officers are Bob Salcido, vice president; Mark Eichelberber, secretary-treasurer, and board members Bill Agopian and Bill Athan.

The association trains officials for high school, junior college and small college games. The South Bay Unit serves the coastal area from Santa Monica to the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

At its recent annual banquet, the unit presented honorary memberships to retired officials who were members: Cliff Graybehl of Torrance, an official for 30 years; William (Butch) Simas of Hermosa Beach, 51 years, and Howie Sharp of Gardena, 28 years.

Holes in one were recently scored at Penmar Golf Course by John Griffin of Santa Monica, June Salah of Venice and Bernie Schorr of Beverly Hills.

Power hitter Liz Masakayan, a junior star for UCLA’s 1984 NCAA volleyball champions and a Santa Monica High School graduate, has been named to the All-American team selected by the Collegiate Volleyball Coaches Assn. and Russell Athletic. Bruin setter Michelle Boyette, a junior from Alta Loma, was a second-team selection.

Three Culver City High School seniors--twins Carlos and Raul Pena and Gary Filtzanidis--have been awarded commendations by the Culver City Council for being among the nation’s top junior soccer players.

All were members of the Culver-Palisades II team of boys under 19 that finished second in the U. S. Youth Soccer Assn. championships last summer and each was selected to the U. S. junior national team.
