Our only instruction to our house-sitting son was, “Save the Travel section of the L.A. Times.” He did, and thus frank Riley (Nov. 25, Dec. 2) gave us a marvelous instant replay of our Yugoslavian holiday. Dubrovnik, Split, Herceg Novi--all as Riley so accurately described.

May I suggest including on the Adriatic circuit the resort town of Opatija, to the north? There we took an incredibly beautiful six-mile beach walk, so reminiscent of our own Carmet-Monterey area. A day trip by bus to Trieste was easily arranged. And not to be missed are some of the most impressive caves of Europe, the Caves of Postojna, an hour and a half by bus from Opatija.
