Funds Sought for Memorial:Members of the Veterans Memorial Committee appealed Wednesday for donations to complete the Veterans’ Memorial. The committee plans to add commemorative plaques honoring county residents who served or died in World War I, World War II and the Korean War. Chairman Major Anderson, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, said it would cost $25,000 to complete the memorial. Located in the Civic Center Plaza, the memorial now lists the names of about 300 county servicemen who died in Vietnam. Anderson said the four-sided memorial was originally intended to include the names of veterans of all four wars, but funds ran out and only one side was completed.
