WLAC to Take On Valley in Opener
West Los Angeles College, which at 5-10 has the worst pre-league basketball record in the Mountain Valley Conference, will open league play against defending champion Los Angeles Valley Collegeat 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Culver City Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
After the Monarchs (10-6), WLAC will face the Antelope Valley Marauders (10-10) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, also at Memorial Auditorium.
The Oilers lost to the Ventura Pirates, 77-56, last week. The team’s leading scorer, guard Angelo Hudson (who averages 16.9 points a game), was held to 12. Guard Frank Lopez (who averages 16.3 points) scored 13 and had 10 assists.
The Monarchs have the league’s leading scorer in guard Larry Middleton, who averages 26.7 a game.
The dominant Marauders are forward Darryl Lewis, the league’s top rebounder (9.8 a game), who averages 15.7 points, and Lonnie Keene, who averages 13.1 points.
