Oceanside
A historic livery stable in downtown Oceanside was gutted by a fire Saturday evening. The flames burned through the one-story, 2,000-square-foot structure, located at Third and Cleveland streets. About 20 firefighters extinguished the blaze in less than an hour. A damage estimate was unavailable for the loss of the stable, but the Oceanside Lumber and Hardware Co., located adjacent to the stable, sustained a few thousand dollars in damage, said Capt. Jim Denny of the Oceanside Fire Department. The stable was used as a livery stable in the early 20th Century. The City of Oceanside was planning to move the stable to serve as part of a historic district in the San Luis Rey Valley, said Oceanside police Sgt. Terry Stevens. The cause of the fire was being investigated Saturday night, Denny said.
