Corporate Crime

It was interesting that when The Times reported (Dec. 18) that major oil companies were charged with deceptive price-rigging of crude oil involving hundreds of millions of dollars, a conspiracy that allegedly lasted for decades, not one word indicated that the corporate conspirators could go to prison.

Such “white-collar” crime could be stopped overnight by lodging company presidents and chairmen in prison for 20 years. That is where people who rob gas stations go for stealing comparative trifles. THEODORE H. BENTLEY Los Angeles
