No U.S. Funds for West Bank

WASHINGTON — A State Department official, reacting to reports that Israel is settling Ethiopian Jewish refugees on the West Bank, said today that the American government will not permit the use of U.S. funds for that purpose.
The Administration has given Israel $12.5 million for resettlement expenses for new immigrants this year and the official, who demanded anonymity, said the government “will look carefully at how the money is spent” and “take steps” to stop any use of the funds for resettling on occupied Arab territory.
