Girls Prep Basketball : Foothill Beats Santa Ana Valley
Foothill High School (6-0, 15-3) demonstrated the style of play that made it the Century League’s No. 1 team, beating Santa Ana Valley, 75-35, Saturday at Foothill.
The Knights took a 23-1 lead over the Falcons in the first quarter, due in part to an effective, full-court press. Knight guards Stacy Barnes and Jennifer Osur combined for several fast breaks following Falcon turnovers.
Foothill’s Felice Geddy had five steals and nine assists, while reserve center Becky Sullivan contributed five rebounds. Jennifer Osur scored 21 points, and Barnes had 7 rebounds along with 18 points. The Falcons (3-3, 5-7) were led by guard Kathy Smith with 15 points.
In other Century League action:
Canyon 60, El Modena 57--The Comanches took a 32-27 halftime advantage after Danyell Rogers scored 19 first-half points at Canyon. Rogers played the best game of her career, scoring 21 points and claiming 16 rebounds--quite a feat for a 5-7 player who sat out the third quarter with four fouls. Guard Julie Harmon added 11 points for Canyon (4-2, 9-5), the league’s third-place team. El Modena (2-4) received a fine performance by guard Theresa Brown with 24 points, including 14 of 17 shooting at the foul line.
In South Coast League action:
Dana Hills 45, San Clemente 39--Laura Dowdy scored 12 points and Roberta Forster and Sheila McCrea added 11 apiece to lead the Dolphins (2-3, 2-9) to the win at home. The Tritons remained winless (0-4) in league play.
