Dick Cavett’s Wife Mugged Outside Manhattan Apartment
NEW YORK — The wife of television personality Dick Cavett was mugged early today as she entered her Manhattan apartment building and was punched in the face by her assailant when she ran after him, police said. Her stolen purse contained $15 and some credit cards, actress Carrie Nye told police.
She said she came home by taxi at about 3:15 a.m. and was in the lobby searching for the keys to open the door of her apartment building on East 79th Street between Park and Lexington avenues when a man approached her, grabbed her pocketbook and pushed her to the ground.
“She then chased the guy to 79th and Park. He punched her in the face, then jumped into a station wagon and fled,” Sgt. Raymond O’Donnell said.
Nye refused medical treatment.
She most recently played a villain on the CBS soap opera “The Guiding Light,” but her character was killed in a fall into a pit of bubbling quicksand.
