13 Injured on Turbulent Flight to S.F.
SAN FRANCISCO — Thirteen people were hurt when air turbulence jarred a San Francisco-bound jetliner over Greenland, Pan American World Airways reported Tuesday.
The Boeing 707 was at 32,000 feet when a 10-knot wind suddenly increased to 100 knots and shifted 80 degrees. The plane leaped 1,000 feet in less than three seconds, Pan Am said.
One unidentified man suffered a broken leg and was hospitalized after the plane landed on schedule at San Francisco International Airport at 3:11 a.m. Tuesday. The others were treated for minor cuts and bruises.
Six of those hurt on the London-to-San Francisco flight were flight attendants and seven were among the aircraft’s 125 passengers, the airline said.
