Local News in Brief : Burbank Library to Begin Home Service
The Burbank Public Library will launch a borrowers’ service for residents who cannot visit the city’s three libraries because of age, illness or permanent disability, according to reference librarian Sandy Bachman.
The service, expected to begin March 4, will be run by volunteers who will visit children and adults on a monthly basis to deliver and collect library materials and take requests for new items.
Bachman said the library decided to create the service after receiving numerous requests and an enthusiastic response from the library staff. “There is a definite need for this kind of service in the Burbank community,” she said. “We are anticipating that we will eventually have a waiting list.”
Interested volunteers and residents in need of the service can contact Bachman at the central library’s reference department, 953-9741.
