Irvine : Keith B. Stewart Room Planned at UCI Campus
A formal reception room in UC Irvine’s planned Bren Events Center will be named for Orange County business executive Keith B. Stewart, the university announced.
The university said the reception area will honor Stewart for his recent donation of $250,000 to the fund drive for the new auditorium-gymnasium.
Ground breaking is scheduled later this year for the center, which will replace the cramped Crawford Gymnasium as the home of basketball and other intercollegiate sports at the university campus and will be the main auditorium for convocations and cultural events.
The university announced that Stewart’s contribution and other recent donations brought the fund-raising campaign to $2.9 million. The goal is to raise $3.8 million in private and corporate donations to help build the $13.5-million facility. A bond issue, to be retired by student fees, will pay for the rest of the cost.
