A Wisconsin woman won the right to pursue her lawsuit against the federal government for the death of her husband, a serviceman who died of cancer after being exposed to radiation during atomic bomb tests. The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled that Florence Shipek, a teacher from Racine, has the right to a hearing on her $2.5-million action in which she contends that authorities failed to warn her husband of the possible health effects of radiation to which he was exposed at Bikini in 1946 and in Nevada six years later. Carl Shipek died of pancreatic cancer in 1969.
