One of two rare birds that flew away from its home at the Los Angeles Zoo and disappeared into the rain was briefly spotted near zoo grounds, park officials said. One of the Asian birds, called rhinoceros hornbills because of a large horn-like growth on their orange beaks, was sighted but quickly flew away. Zoo spokeswoman Lora La Marca said the zoo has been flooded with calls from Los Angeles and Orange counties by people who have allegedly spotted the birds, a male and female worth $15,000.
