Saddleback Attempts to Snap Streak Tonight

Saddleback College, in danger of falling from contention for a Shaughnessy playoff berth, meets host Cypress in a South Coast Conference game tonight at 7:30.

The Gauchos (4-7 in conference and 14-11 overall) have lost three straight, including Saturday night’s 71-62 defeat at the hands of Orange Coast. The loss dropped Saddleback into seventh place in the conference standings, one-half game behind sixth-place Compton and one game behind fifth-place Orange Coast. The first five finishers in the SCC qualify for postseason play.

Fourth-place Cypress (5-5, 11-9) also is coming off a defeat. The Chargers lost to Fullerton in overtime Saturday, 64-56. It was Cypress’ second overtime loss to the Hornets this season.

In other South Coast Conference games tonight: Golden West (0-11, 7-17) is at Orange Coast (5-6, 14-11), Santa Ana (2-8, 10-13) is at Cerritos (10-1, 19-4) and Compton (4-6, 9-12) is at Mt. San Antonio (10-1, 23-2). Fullerton (8-3, 14-10) is idle.
