2 Sylmar Women Hurt in Collision With Van
Two 70-year-old Sylmar women were seriously injured in a traffic accident Tuesday when their car was struck by a van at an intersection, authorities said.
The two injured women, Eva Carver and Ester Jones, were taken to Holy Cross Hospital after the accident, which occurred at 11:10 a.m. at Dronfield Avenue and Hubbard Street in Sylmar, said Los Angeles police officer Patrick Lyman. Both women were listed in serious condition.
Lyman said Carver, who was driving west on Hubbard Street, apparently made an illegal left turn onto Dronfield and was hit by a van driven by Thelma Whitaker, 52, of Sylmar. The van went out of control and ran off the road into the front yard of a house, where it hit a walnut tree, he said.
Carver’s car also went out of control and hit another car driven by Connie Caines, who was stopped in the intersection, Lyman said.
Whitaker suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized, Lyman said.
