Dwarf Son Offered for Adoption; 1 Condition
AMMAN, Jordan — A street vendor is offering his 5-year-old son for adoption to anyone who will finance the child’s medical treatment for dwarfism, the Arabic daily newspaper Al Dustour said Monday.
The boy, Alaa Nayef Mahmoud Shar, is only 34 inches tall and weighs only 24 pounds, said the newspaper, which printed a photo of the child carrying a poster that read, “Treat Him and Take Him.”
Alaa’s father, Nayef, was quoted as saying: “I cannot provide the money, even if I sell all that I own, so what shall I do--just let my child face his painful destiny? Faced by my helplessness, I am willing to sacrifice all.”
