False Bomb Threat in Newhall Clears Store
The area around a Newhall supermarket was evacuated Friday night after a man called the store demanding money and threatening to explode a bomb he claimed to have hidden in a shoe box inside the store.
A shoe box was found in the Alpha Beta market but there were no explosives in it, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Kenneth Fiege said. He said the store paid no extortion money.
The Sheriff’s Department bomb squad carried the shoe box to a nearby clearing and “blew it apart as a precaution,” Fiege said.
