San Diego Roundup : Easter Seals Run Is Expected to Attract 2,000 on Saturday

More than 2,000 runners are expected to participate in the fifth Easter Seals 10K and two-mile fun run Saturday at La Jolla Village, which is located at the northeast corner of Genesee and La Jolla Village Drive.

The 10K is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. and the fun run approximately 10 minutes later. Day-of-race registration begins at 6 a.m. Runners will be divided into seven men’s and women’s divisions.

The race is part of the year-long fund raising effort that culminates with the organization’s annual telethon on March 30-31 on Channel 8.

The Hall’s Western Fishing Tackle and Boat Show continues through Sunday at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The show, organized by Fred and Lois Hall, is geared mostly toward children.

Those 12 years old and under who are accompanied by a parent will be admitted free. Their first catch from the Huck Finn Trout Pond will be free of charge. And the first 500 youngsters through the gate today will receive one a piece of fishing equipment.

The KYXY Grunion Run 10K and two-mile fun run is scheduled for Saturday. The race, which starts just south of the Hilton Hotel on Mission Bay, is being held to raise funds for the San Diego State men’s and women’s crew teams.

The race coincides with the first predicted beach appearance of the grunion this year. The 10K is scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m. and the fun run shortly thereafter. Day-of-race registration begins at 5 a.m. The KYXY double-decker bus will shuttle participants from parking areas to the starting point.

The Rancho Bernardo half-marathon will be held on Sunday at 7 a.m. in Rancho Bernardo Park. A two-mile fun run will be held at 8 a.m. Net proceeds from the event benefit the San Diego City Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The race begins and ends near Lake Hodges and runs through the nearby countryside and residential areas.

The Pacific Beach Senior Softball League plays doubleheaders at 9 a.m. every Saturday at the Pacific Beach Recreation Center field at Gresham and Felspar streets. Anyone 55 years or older is welcome.
