Gas Co. Passes Four-Million Meter Mark
The number of meters installed by Southern California Gas Co. has passed 4 million--the largest number in the country and about a million more than the nation’s second largest gas distributor, Pacific Gas & Electric Co. in Northern California.
The Southland gas company says it supplies one of every 12 natural gas customers in the United States, serving more than 13 million persons by way of 4,012,000 meters. More than 95% of all single-family homes in Southern California use natural gas for space and water heating and more than 70% for cooking and clothes drying.
John C. Abram, chairman of the gas company’s board, presented a plaque commemorating the 4-millionth installation to Carson homeowners Eden Hernane and Zenaida Israel.
