3 Killed When Car, Jeep Collide in Chatsworth
Three San Fernando Valley men were killed early Friday in a collision between a jeep and a Volkswagen at a Chatsworth intersection, police said.
There were no survivors and no witnesses to the accident, which occurred at 2:40 a.m. at Tampa Avenue and Devonshire Street, officer Bob Ockey said.
The driver of the Volkswagen, Jacinto Castillejo, 27, and his cousin, Aurelio Castillejo, 35, both of Reseda, were traveling south on Tampa Avenue, police said. The jeep, which was westbound on Devonshire Street, rolled as a result of the crash and ejected its driver, Michael R. Hempel, 38, of Chatsworth, Ockey said.
City Fire Department paramedics pronounced all three dead at the scene of massive head and other injuries, Ockey said.
It is not known who was at fault in the accident or whether alcohol may have contributed, Ockey said.
