A jury in New Braunfels, Tex., ordered a 75-year prison term for a Houston youth, convicted of the murder of a letter carrier, whose parents had been jailed for refusing to testify against him before a grand jury. David Port, 18, also was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine for his conviction in the June 7 slaying of Debora Sue Schatz, 23. David’s parents, Bernard and Odette Port, were jailed briefly on contempt-of-court charges after contending that the same legal protections that allow spouses not to testify against each other permitted them not to testify against their son.
