New Students to Have TB Tests
All incoming kindergarten students and other pupils transferring to Los Angeles County schools will be required to have tuberculosis skin tests this fall, county health officials announced today.
About 200,000 students will be affected by the decision, meant to help lower Los Angeles’ high tuberculosis rate. Tuberculosis occurs in Los Angeles at nearly twice the national average, due in part to the large immigrant communities in the county, health officials said.
