IRS Files Liens Against Gunslingers
SAN ANTONIO — The Internal Revenue Service said it filed liens against the San Antonio Gunslingers of the United States Football League for allegedly failing to pay $404,763 in federal payroll withholding taxes due the last three quarters of 1984.
The IRS could seize the San Antonio team and sell it to satisfy delinquent taxes if payments were not made, IRS spokesman Bob Branson said.
“The lien expresses the government’s interest in property. We always have hopes it will not come down to an actual seizure and sale,” he said Tuesday.
The Austin IRS District last year held 120 sales out of a total of 525 seizures in such tax delinquency cases, he said.
The two liens name South Texas Inc. as the taxpayer, noting that South Texas Sports also does business as the San Antonio Gunslingers.
